Swine flu Pandemic and the media

I've just watched the H1N1 Panel last night on a national TV news show where they talked about the media's influence by their stories about the swine flu on many people as they were criticized for their coverage over one boy's death close to 300 times. People were so scared after they covered that one story that they were all flocking to get their swine flu shots and were upset about not getting their swine flu shots. I know people who are panicked about not getting their swine flu shots yet. Anyways the media on that station were asking if they covered the story too much and had too much influence on people because of their stories.

I think that the media has placed way too much hype on the swine flu and the very few deaths that have occurred from it so far. They've blown the few stories way out of proportion as we never ever hear yearly from the media about the normal 4,000+ deaths from the regular flu in Canada. Nothing is ever said about those statistics to the general public.

On Sat 2 May 2009 (at the website guardian.co.uk) the Mexican health minister, José Ángel Córdova says that the swine flu outbreak in Mexico they suspect has been smaller than initially feared after the country's health minister revised down the suspected death toll from 176 to 101.

There have been 908 tests on suspected cases in Mexico. Of them, 397 turned out to have the virus, health officials said.

All this hype about nothing as the total deaths from the swine flu in Mexico don't even surpass the 4000+ deaths from the yearly regular flu viruses in our country of Canada (32 million) and Mexico (103 million) has a far greater population. You can see by the numbers that 101 deaths from the swine flu certainly doesn't surpass over 4000+ deaths from the regular flu. Search it out yourselves on the web.

On Oprah's show she had and expert UN doctor warn us about the Avian Influenza on June 4, 2006 to help us all prepare for the Bird Flu Pandemic where every facet in society would be effected and shut down because of that. Now I ask you what happened in 2006? Did the whole society come to a standstill and halt because of the Bird Flu?

This reminds me of all the hype the media reported about Y2K where all the computers were going to stop Jan 1, 2000. It was supposed to create a total collapse of our society as we know it and people where taking all of their money out of their bank accounts, buying tons of food, etc. I woke up Jan 1, 2000 and nothing happened and I suspect the same thing will happen here with the swine flu pandemic.
